What's A Time to Go Walking About?!

A Time to Go Walking is a beautifully written Irish play that explores Life, Love and Death. Set in rural Ireland in 1952 the audience is introduced to Kate and Dicky Mick Dicky. At curtain, we find Dicky dressed in full Cetic regalia preparing to "Go Walking" and meet his demise. Dicky is a lovable dreamer and schemer who, for thirty years of marriage, has managed to find lots to do, except his chores. Kate is his long suffering wife who, after thirty years of marriage, had hopes for greater than what they have ended up with. While Dicky may think it is his time to walk into the afterlife, it is actually Kate who is closer to death's door than he is willing or able to see. On the one hand, this play is a comedy as they recount his many fantastic ideas to make money and Kate questions his fidelity after all these years. On the other hand, it is a drama that explores mortality and what one expects out of life. It will have you laughing through to the end when Kate's final line brings many to tears.

This play is so beautifully written and Dangerous Theatre could not have found better actors to play Kate and Dicky than Ellen Ranson and Timothy Englert. They bring these characters to life with such love that you can't help but feel you know Kate and Dicky personally by play's end. Ellen and Tim first performed this play last September/October here at Dangerous Theatre. They loved the play so much they asked to do it again. We offered a limited engagement at the Mary Milelr Theater in Lafayette this past January. Ellen and Tim have shared the stage together for a number of productions including The Gin Game, Death of a Salesman and Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Many of their fans claim this is their best performance yet.  I cannot count the number of times I have seen this play, and I STILL tear up as Ellen delivers Kate's last line. This is not a play to miss.

Warning: This play does include adult subject matter and language and some naked bum exposure!

Has this play been produced before?

Playwright Peter Mc Garry with Eyewitness Theater Company in England first premiered this play at the 1999 Orlando Fringe Festival and then took it across the Canadian Fringe circuit that same year. It played to sold out audiences in Orlando and across Canada. He has also produced it in England, Ireland, and Australia. Peter based the play on the writings of beloved Irish writer John B. Keane, whom he worked with before Keane's death in 2002. Mc Garry is a very talented wordsmith.  I have had the pleasure of seeing many of Peter's plays over my 10 years of working at the Orlando Fringe Festival. A Time to Go Walking is, by far, my favorite play of all times, which is why I chose it as the first main stage production at Denver's Dangerous Theatre last year.  While it has yet to be reviewed in Denver, it has never received a bad work from any critic, anywhere.

"Blarney? Of course it is! But very, very funny and beautifully written blarney. Five stars!"

"Mysterious, magical, enthralling. This is a tale for the pure romantics. Witty and wild, the action never stops. Clever stuff from Eyewitness."
